Before and after abdominoplasty in a 39-year-old mother of a five-year-old and two-and-a-half-year-old twins. After her first pregnancy, her body bounced back well, but her second multiple pregnancy did a number on her abdominal wall! She had severe rectus diastasis (separation of the rectus abdominis muscles, also called diastasis recti) from two large babies growing at the same time in her belly!
Her abdominoplasty involved removal of some excess lower abdominal skin (which she lovingly called her “twin skin”) and some fat, but more importantly, repair of the rectus abdominis muscles back together in the midline. Her abdominal skin was pulled downward, and her belly button was inset through a new skin opening (same belly button, just a new scar around it).
Liposuction removed excess fat from her abdomen, flanks and pubic region. After surgery, she took six weeks off work and hired additional help with her three children under the age of five. Follow up photos are shown 3 months after surgery.
Her abdominal scar is pink and immature, which is normal for three months after any surgery. She still has surgical swelling which will gradually resolve over the next year – but she already looks phenomenal!
