Before and after mini-abdominoplasty and liposuction of the abdomen in a 59-year-old woman. She was looking to improve the appearance of her abdomen but did not want to have “major surgery” and wanted to avoid a general anesthetic if possible.
Although she was a candidate for a full abdominoplasty, surgery is often a negotiation, based on our patients’ preferences and goals for their body. Plastic Surgery never uses a one-size-fits-all approach.
For this patient, we planned an in-office mini-abdominoplasty under local anesthesia. Anytime a procedure is designated as “mini,” it indicates not all components of the procedure are being performed. In this case, only her lower abdominal skin and fat was excised, but muscle repair was not done nor was the belly button inset through a new opening.
Liposuction removed nearly a liter of fat, which is possible for small areas under local anesthesia. Follow up photos are shown 9 months after surgery. She is very pleased with her results and that she could participate in the planning process for her procedure.
