Before and after abdominoplasty and liposuction of the abdomen and flanks in a 38-year-old woman. After having children, she accumulated fat in her abdominal region and developed rectus diastasis (separation of the rectus abdominis muscles, also called “diastasis recti”), which caused her back to arch as compensation.
An abdominoplasty removed excess skin and fat, repaired her muscles back together in the midline and redraped her abdominal skin. Liposuction removed excess fat from her upper and lower abdomen, circumferential flanks, pubic region and upper inner thighs.
Follow up photos are shown 1 year after surgery with scars that are maturing and an improved abdominal contour. Abdominal core strengthening will further improve her abdominal tone as she learns how to best engage her muscles. Interestingly, the best exercises for core strength are pushups and planks, which can be learned online and done at home for free!
