Before and after abdominoplasty as part of a Mommy Makeover in a 37 year old mother of three. Although she was very physically active and slender, her abdominal muscles were not working effectively due to rectus diastasis. When she planked (daily), it felt like her “guts were going to fall out” and there was no more she could do at the gym to help this.
A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) removed as much lower abdominal skin (including stretch marks) as possible, repaired her rectus abdominis muscles back together in the midline, and pulled her abdominal wall tautly downward.
The last image in this series shows the dissection during a tummy tuck – separation of the rectus abdominis muscles is shown by two white lines. These muscles are repaired in the midline with a two-layered repair, effectively correcting her diastasis and allowing the muscles to work ergonomically correct again.
Liposuction of the axillary rolls, upper and lower abdomen, flanks and upper inner thighs completed the procedure. Early follow up photos are shown just 6 weeks after surgery. She has been given permission to resume her HIIT workouts and she has begun scar therapy.
Time will only help her results look even better, as she is still hanging on to firm swelling called “edema” that will gradually go away over many months. Her scars will mature and will be hidden in her brand new bikinis, which she just ordered online! ☺
