Before and after abdominoplasty in a 43 year old mother. Her abdomen previously was one of her best features, but multiple big babies and swings in her weight with each pregnancy had created an “apron” of skin and fat she never had before!
A tummy tuck removed this excess overhang, repaired her abdominal muscles back together in the midline, and redraped her tummy tuck firmly downwards, which lifted her pubic area at the same time.
Liposuction of the upper and lower abdomen, flanks, pubic area and upper inner thighs debulked this fatty layer.
Follow up photos are shown 6 months postoperatively. She naturally has darkly pigmented skin and her incisions are dark which is normal for an immature scar. Scar formation tends to be genetically determined, but we educate each of our patients about things they can do to optimize their surgical scars.
By continuing to use the scar gel we recommend, avoiding direct sun exposure to incisions, strict sun block use of SPF30 or higher, and the “tincture of time”, her incisions will continue to fade over the next 6-12 months and be much less noticeable.
