Am I a Candidate for a Mastopexy with Breast Implants?
Women who are candidates for the placement of an implant at the same time as a breast lift (known as mastopexy-augmentation) are those who not only have drooping, sagging breasts, but who also wish to better “fill out their bra cup” or replace volume that was lost after breastfeeding, weight loss, or aging. These patients are generally seeking additional “upper pole fullness” to the breasts, which is a term used to describe the youthful volume or fullness at the top of the breast as opposed to a scooped-out hollow that many women who are candidates for a mastopexy indeed have.
In combination with lifting the breasts, placement of a breast implant during a mastopexy helps to fill out the empty part at the top of droopy breasts. The skin is then draped naturally around the implant for the best aesthetic results. This is often performed together with liposuction and/or a tummy tuck as part of a Mommy Makeover procedure.
How exactly will an implant enhance and ‘augment’ a breast lift?
Ultimately, an implant placed at the same time as a breast lift will not only lift the nipples and areolas to a higher position, re-drape loose and baggy skin, and reshape the breasts, but the result will generally be a fuller, more youthful breast with an increase in breast size. How much is the breast size increased? This depends on each patient’s goals! We can create nearly any size and shape of a breast, using tissue rearrangement and/or insertion of an implant during mastopexy-augmentation.
