National Breast Cancer Reconstruction Awareness “BRA Day” 2012 It is my honor and pleasure to announce that I will be hosting the San Francisco/Bay Area’s first-ever National Breast Cancer Reconstruction Awareness Day! On Wednesday, October 17th, 2012, from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m., the lobby of my office building (2100 Webster Street (at Clay), San Francisco 94115) will be transformed into warm, caring educational reception that will promote awareness about breast cancer reconstruction techniques! As a Plastic Surgeon and Reconstructive Microsurgeon who is dedicated to caring for breast cancer patients, my goal is to increase the local awareness of the public about the fantastic breast reconstruction options available for women. Our San Francisco event will feature: Breast cancer survivors speaking about their reconstruction experience Educational material about the latest advances in breast reconstruction techniques Slideshow of before and after images of actual breast reconstruction results “Breast Cancer Bathing Beauties” photo shoot slideshow of breast cancer survivors and “previvors” modeling a swim suit line specially designed for women facing breast cancer treatment Soft live music Free samples and special giveaways for breast cancer survivors PLEASE JOIN US for a few minutes or the entire event, to learn, pick up educational information, share your stories (as a breast cancer survivor), and become enlightened about the latest and greatest techniques in breast reconstruction! Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day, or BRA Day USA, is an initiative designed to promote education, awareness and access regarding post-mastectomy breast reconstruction. Singer/songwriter Jewel is the national spokesperson for this initiative. BRA Day USA is a collaborative effort between the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, The Plastic Surgery Foundation, Plastic Surgeons specializing in breast reconstruction surgery, nurse navigators, medical device industry representatives and breast cancer support groups. These and other organizations, breast cancer patients, their families and friends coordinate events on BRA Day USA that include question and answer sessions, lectures, flash mobs, fundraising parties, advertising campaigns and community events.
